So now that we know that we're going to have a boy, the next question everyone asks is "Do you have names picked out?"
Yes, we do. In fact, we have only one name picked out. And no, we're not telling.
There are a few reasons for this, mostly so we don't have to go through "Oh, why are you naming him that?" or to find out that some distant black sheep relative who killed twelve people has the same name and how dare we name our child after this person. Ignorance is bliss.
(There's also the fact that we'd like to have at least one surprise to spring on the world.)
Anyway, at the pregnancy board I frequent, there's a whole category of entries on baby names. Most of the entries seem to be like "Which middle name do you like better with 'Jaylyn' - 'Cody' or 'Mackynzy'?" which makes my teeth hurt. I was bummed out enough growing up with a name like "Whitney", where I could never find barrettes or pencils or erasers with my name on them. (Of course, now the name is popular and I am having more luck finding those sorts of things.)
(and, of course, everyone thinks "Jaylyn Mackynzy" is a beautiful name and so unique. It really makes me want to post and say "I'm thinking of naming my son 'Galaga Tempest', what do you all think?")
Sigh. There are people out there who name their children "Ibis" and "Quazi" and "President" and "Xak". I feel for these kids, really I do.
