So happy Memorial Day. I woke up this morning at 8:30 or something to the sound of a drum corps practically outside our window. Apparently there was a parade this morning, and in our town, parades start at the little plaza at the end of our street. This was cool on the 4th of July last year, because we could just walk the half-block and watch it, but not as cool this time, as I am 39 weeks pregnant and could have used the extra sleep.

I start maternity leave this week. I have to resign myself to the fact that when I return to my desk after Labor Day (the first week in September, not my actual labor day) it will look nothing like how I left it. Any time I have taken a day off since I started working in my permanent spot (back in October), I come back and nothing is done the way it should be done. Computer files aren't saved the way I have asked people to save them, letters aren't set up the way the attorneys like them to be set up, stuff on my desk is moved around or broken (that one was the worst. I was out one day and came back to discover that the woman who had sat in for me the day before had broken a little Woodstock treat jar I had sitting on my desk. No note of explanation or apology, and any time I saw her she never brought it up. (I know it was her because the woman who sits next to me told me who it was.) But she left in the big Firing of March 2001, so ha ha ha on her.)

I don't think I'm being too demanding, but if you look at a directory of files, and they are named in a certain format, wouldn't you, um, well, try to follow the same format when you save a file you've done, rather than create your own format? Especially if the notes left by the person creating that directory asks you to follow her format?

Sigh.
